About us

Cordula Kafka is a Berlin-based design studio specializing in the creation of porcelain lighting objects for bespoke installations.

Collaborating closely with architects and lighting-planners, the studio has for nearly two decades created limited-edition products and tailor-made pieces for private residences, various hospitality locations and corporate headquarters in Europe and worldwide.

The design atelier gives rise to new ideas, which are developed from prototyping through implementation. Final objects are made by hand, using traditional techniques, in combination with newly developed manufacturing methods.

Organized in a well-functioning network of other German manufacturers, technically demanding products are realized in cooperation with lamp manufacturers and technicians, created with porcelain as the main protagonist, resulting in the highest quality, sophisticated lighting solutions.

Products and services

Pulling from two decades of experience, and a portfolio of limited edition products created using a diverse range of manufacturing techniques, studio Cordula Kafka offers custom lighting design solutions to enhance any architectural space.

Each of the studio's products are designed with room for customization as a prerequisite.

Specialized in, but not limited to porcelain, Kafka thrives on coming together with architects to create site-specific installations that considers, and thereby amplifies their environments.

LEAVES—Hotel Motel One, Frankfurt DE
700 stainless steel rods, 350 porcelain leaves and 70 LED spots establishe an ethereal atmosphere around the hotel's lobby area. Located on the Büchergasse (Book Ally) in the Old Town of Frankfurt, the architecture and design of the hotel thematically references the long history of the Frankfurt Book Fair. Responding to this concept, an expansive version of Leaves forms a cluster of porcelain sheets, simulating book pages, frozen and floating in space.
